Encountering the Dark Goddess (2013)

Held every year following the Southern Samhain, the next Encountering the Dark Goddess workshop in Adelaide will be taking place on Saturday, 4 May 2013.

Who is the Dark Goddess?
There is more to the "Dark Goddess" than being an elderly woman, the Crone, Hag or Death Bringer aspect of the Goddess. She is the shape shifter, the initiator, the challenger, the seductress. She reminds us of our own mortality, our fears and failings in order to help us transform our lives.
During this interactive workshop, we journey into the hidden depths of the Underworld to meet the Keeper of Secrets and the Cauldron of Inner Knowledge, the Mover and Shaker, the Sorceress ... and all the other names by which the Dark Goddess has been referred to.

Through our own fear, we often ignore or misinterpret the Dark Goddess because it is She who reflects our own mortality - however, it is She who also guards the magickal Cauldron of Transformation, and it is only through transformation that our soul continues to evolve and grow.

Altar to the Dark Goddesses

This workshop provides the participant with the necessary tools in order to meet and work with the various Dark Goddesses. It is through the use of ritual, myth and magick that we journey into these hidden depths in order to face our shadows, allowing us to open ourselves up in order to be transformed under the protective guidance of the Dark Goddess.
The Dark Goddesses who we will be journeying with in 2013 will include:
  • Hel - the Norse Goddess who determines the fate of all souls that enter her realm,
  • Kali-Ma - Hindu "dark" Mother - she who is most feared as well as most revered,
  • Tiamat - the ancient Mesopotamian Creatrix of the world,
  • Oya - African Goddess of storms, winds and the creatrix of hurricanes; and
  • Hekate - Thracian Goddess of the Crossroads, magick and necromany.

Exhortation of Isis

You are She in the dust of whose feet is the hosts of Heaven,
Whose body encircles the Universe,
Who turns the Earth in its orb,
Who gives light to the Sun,
Who rules the World.

You tread death underfoot.
To Thee, the stars are responsive,
To Thee the seasons turn and the Gods rejoice
And the elements are in subjugation.

You are She that is the natural Mother of all things,
Mistress and governor of all elements,
The initial progeny of worlds,
Chief of Divine powers,
Queen of Heaven,
Principle of all the Gods celestial and the light of Goddesses.

At Your will are disposed the planets of the air,
The wholesome winds of the seas
And the silences of the unseen world.
